Prespa’s Green and Blue LifeLines

Description

The iconic natural site of the Prespa Lakes, shared by Greece, Albania, and Northern Macedonia, is of paramount importance. However, the various riverine areas of Prespa are at real risk of rapid degradation. The Society for the Protection of Prespa (SPP) seeks to improve knowledge and understanding of the ecological roles, threats, and values of the rivers and riverine habitats of the Greek part of Prespa. In addition, SPP strives to enact concrete actions to rehabilitate these areas and raise awareness.

GOALS

  • Compile all knowledge on the rivers and riverine habitats of the Greek part of Prespa Tackle threats to rivers and riverine habitats
  • Rehabilitate rivers and riparian areas as spawning grounds for endemic fish as sites for priority habitats
  • Raise awareness and generate community involvement and interest
