More, better and bigger nature in Denmark
Where, how and how much?
Purpose
The project will create an overview of key areas in Denmark where efforts to preserve and support biodiversity can be used to best advantage, the aim being to establish a national network of high-priority, well-managed nature areas. More, better and wider nature areas in Denmark.
Project description
An increased effort to preserve and support biodiversity is high on the political agenda, both globally and in Denmark. At the same time, there is a general scientific consensus in Denmark on specific measures, including the contiguity of the large expanse of nature areas, and by increasing nature areas by taking out agricultural land.
However, optimal and cost-effective efforts require prioritization. Thus, the aim of this project is to provide an updated, knowledge-based overview of key areas in Denmark where efforts will yield optimum benefits. Through objective data-based analyses, the following questions will be clarified: Where to optimally conserve and protect biodiversity in Denmark? Which wide expanses of nature are most important? Where can we advantageously expand the nature areas? And at what cost?
